Why Twitch's single volume knob fails your chat

Every viewer on a Twitch stream hears the same mix, and the only control they get is one volume slider that moves everything at once.

One mix can't please a thousand pairs of ears

Some people tune in for the commentary, some for the game, and some just want the music. The streamer sets one balance in OBS for everybody, so someone is always unhappy. Chat says it every night: "music too loud", "can't hear you over the game", "turn ur mic up", "music is perfect leave it".

Why the volume slider doesn't help

Twitch's player turns the whole mix up or down. The music stays exactly as loud compared to the streamer's voice, whatever the slider says. So streamers end up changing their levels mid-stream for whoever complained last, and the next person in chat complains about the new mix.

How Faders fixes it

• The streamer sends separate layers. The free OBS plugin sends voice, game and music alongside the stream. The stream on Twitch doesn't change.
• Each viewer sets their own mix. The Faders extension adds voice, game and music faders to the Twitch player and keeps them in sync with the video.
• Ads stay as they are. During an ad break, Faders steps aside and Twitch's own audio plays.
• Everyone else hears the normal mix. Viewers on phones, TV apps or without the extension hear the stream exactly as before.

Let viewers control stream volume

Streamers: set up the OBS plugin in about five minutes. It's free for up to 25 listeners at once. Viewers: the extension is free for Chrome, Edge and Firefox.
