Use the Faders extension

Set your own volume levels on Faders-enabled Twitch streams. Install the extension, adjust each audio layer, keep your mix in sync and fix common problems.

The Faders extension is a free browser extension that lets you set your own voice, game and music levels on Twitch channels that use Faders. It needs no account. It runs only on twitch.tv, in desktop Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Get it at faders.tv/extension, which opens the Chrome Web Store, Edge Add-ons or Firefox Add-ons, whichever matches your browser.

Your mix and the streamer’s mix

Faders changes only what you hear. Your levels do not change the broadcast or anyone else’s settings. Each slider controls a separate audio layer supplied by the streamer’s OBS plugin; the extension cannot pull separate sounds out of an ordinary mixed stream.

The current controls are Voice, Game and Music. If a channel does not send Faders layers, you hear its normal stream audio.

Mix a stream

  1. Open a Twitch channel that uses Faders. A Mix this stream button appears at the bottom right of the video. Once you've used it on a page, it reads Faders. On other channels, nothing appears.
  2. Click it. The Faders panel opens with three sliders: Voice, Game and Music.
  3. Set them however you like. Your levels apply only to you, and they're saved for every Faders channel.

Not sure which channels use Faders? Try it on our demo, twitch.tv/faderstv, which is live around the clock.

Sync

Twitch's video runs a few seconds behind the live action. Faders matches its audio to the video automatically. The panel shows syncing while it lines up, usually within about 10–15 seconds, then synced. Until then you hear Twitch's normal audio.

If the sound ever seems early or late, open Sync in the panel:

Ads

When a Twitch ad starts, Faders steps aside and you hear the ad as normal, then it picks up again. It isn't an ad blocker, and streamers keep their ad revenue.

Turn it off

The toolbar popup

Click the Faders icon in your browser's toolbar to see whether the channel in the current tab uses Faders, and your saved levels. On a channel that doesn't use Faders yet, Copy an invite for chat copies a short message you can send the streamer.

Privacy

The extension doesn't collect personal data, has no accounts and doesn't track you. It asks Faders whether a channel uses it (by channel name only) and receives the audio. See the privacy policy.

Troubleshooting

Why is there no Mix this stream button?

Usually because the channel doesn't use Faders, or the streamer isn't live with it right now. The toolbar popup tells you which. If the channel does use Faders:

Why is the audio out of sync?

Auto-sync needs 15–30 seconds after you press the button. Until it's synced you hear Twitch's normal audio, not the Faders layers. If it still seems off:

Twitch sometimes speeds up playback to catch up after buffering. Faders follows small changes on its own, but a long buffer can need a moment to re-sync.

Why does the panel say "no stream audio"?

The stream itself has no sound right now, so Faders has nothing to line its layers up with. That's usually a setting in the streamer's OBS. If it stays silent, let the streamer know Twitch isn't getting their audio. Faders syncs on its own once the sound is back.

What does "Faders is full on this channel right now" mean?

The streamer's plan allows a set number of Faders listeners at once, and that number is reached. You hear Twitch's normal audio, and the extension tries again every 30 seconds.

Why does it say Faders is already open on several devices?

Faders allows up to 4 listeners from the same network on one channel at a time. If you or others on your network already have it open in 4 tabs or devices, the next one hears Twitch's normal audio. Close a tab you aren't using; the extension tries again every 30 seconds.

Why doesn't a sound change with any slider?

The streamer's audio setup decides what each slider controls. If a sound is missing, there's silence, or two sounds move together, let the streamer know. Their setup guide is here.

Why is there no sound at all?

Check that the three Faders sliders aren't all at zero, and that the browser tab and your system volume aren't muted. Faders plays its layers at the slider levels, separately from the Twitch player's volume control. If it's still silent, Sync → Turn off reloads the page with Twitch's own audio.
